Virginia Messina, MPH, RD is a registered dietitian with a masters degree in public health. She specializes in vegan nutrition and lifestyle.

Ginny has taught dietetics students at Central Michigan University, developed vegan education materials as a nutritionist for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and edited an international newsletter on vegetarian nutrition published by Loma Linda University. As a public health nutritionist and educator she worked with consumers from a wide variety of backgrounds, including teenage mothers, migrant farm workers in the rural Midwest, and low-income families in both urban and rural areas.

In addition to being a coauthor of the American Dietetic Association’s position paper on vegetarian diets, she has written books on vegetarianism for both consumers and medical professionals. She currently devotes her time to educating consumers about practical and nutritional aspects of vegan diet. She is passionate about animal rights and vegan lifestyle, and is devoted to helping people take steps toward more compassionate lifestyle choices in ways that are realistic for them.

When she isn’t writing, Ginny is reading or gardening or volunteering at the local animal shelter. She’s a devoted mom to a household of rescued cats and an avid collector of vintage textiles.

She shares her thoughts on vegan education on The Vegan Dietitian blog and tweets on twitter as TheVeganRD.
